Accuracy International, manufactuer of the standard sniper rifles of the British, Dutch, Swedish, German armies decided to offer their rifle’s stock technology to the public for use on Remington 700 rifles as the Accuracy International Chassis System. US Navy subsequently adopted the Stage 2.0 AICS for their Mk 13 Sniper Weapon System. The Remington AICS is an incredibly rugged stock which does away with traditional bedding methods by having the receiver bolt down directly onto a rigid, self aligning aluminum chassis.
The Remington 700 AICS takes no special gunsmithing to install – you just bolt it on. The aluminum chassis supports glass reinforced polymer panels that interface between the stock and the shooter. These provide thermal and environmental protection and the Rem 700 AICS absolutely will not bend or warp due to temperature or humidity. They form a substantial thumbhole grip for control of the weapon and a screw adjustable cheekpiece is provided to enable the shooter to achieve the correct cheek weld for sights mounted at various heights. Stock length is adjustable via spacers.
Attachment points for both Accuracy International and Harris bipods are provided as are recessed sling swivels for Heckler & Koch style slings. The flat profile of the stock makes the Accuracy International Chassis Kit very easy to carry in a slung position and the Stage 2.0′s folding stock helps with carriage in confined spaces and/or if a suppressor is fitted. A 5 round magazine is provided with both .308 and .300 Winmag AICS and a 10 round is available as an optional extra for the .308. The magazines are double stack in .308 and single stack in .300 Winmag and feature tempered springs and self lubricating polymer followers for complete reliability. All three magazines are available from Brownells.
The Stage 1.5 AICS or AICS 1.5 is non folding and comes in short and long action variants for the .308 Winchester (or any .308 derived) cartridge and the .300 Winchester Magnum. The Stage 2.0 AICS or AICS 2.0 is a folding version, again available in short and long action variants. The AICS is 30 1/2″ (77.5cm) long, reducing to 22 1/2″ (57cm) when foled (Stage 2.0 only). Weight varies from 5 lb. 5 oz. to 5 lb. 12 oz. (2.55 kg).
