The Daniel Defense M4 rail was chosen by the United States Army Marksmanship Unit for their Designated Marskman rifle program. This is a great endorsement for a rail system introduced a decade ago and still the lightest and strongest on the market. The United States Army Marksmanship Unit were looking for a rail with a high strength to weight ratio.
That is the key advantage of the Daniel Defence M4 rail. The M4 rail system is machined from 6061 T6 aluminum with plenty of ventilation cuts for light weight and great ventilation. Unlike most other M4 rail systems this rail is designed to be oval in cross section, like a normal rifle handguard, rather than circular.
Free-floating design takes variable stresses off the barrel, ensuring consistent accuracy. Two stainless steel indexing pins prevent the handguard from coming loose and rotating. The whole unit is hard coat anodized in a matte black finish to match that of current US Army and Marine Corps weapons. The slots are alphanumerically numbered to enable return of detached items to their correct slots for repeat zero.
The M4 version is 7.25″ long, 1.94″ wide and weighs 8.8 ounces. The M16 version is 12.5″ long, 1.94″ wide and weighs 13.7 ounces. Internal diameter is 1.45 inches. Other M4 rails are available – see Daniel Defense’s website for details.
