Magpul UBR Stock Review

The Magpul UBR stock for AR15 series rifles and carbines

Magpul UBR stock for AR15, M4 and M16 rifles and carbines

The Magpul UBR stock (Utility Battle Rifle)  is as solid as a fixed stock and provides ideal cheek weld for stable accurate shooting. The open position of this AR15 collapsible stock can be set to your preference from seven choices simply by moving a machine screw and the Magpul UBR lacks protrusions to catch on branches or equipment. By pressing a button you can extend the stock the rest of the way. Sling mounting options on this M16 collapsible stock include a slot in the toe of the butt and QD press in sling swivel stud mounts at the front and rear that can be mounted on either side.  These allow complete rotation – unlike the LaRue units and ambidextrous versions are available as an optional extra. There is a removable storage compartment for spare batteries etc. with a locking door – take this out for a skeletonized look. A soft rubber butt pad (0.30″ supplied and replaceable with 0.55″ or 0.70″ versions) provides a secure grip). The unit is made of super tough polymer and machined aluminum – this is a stock AR15 users will find extremely rugged and durable.  An aluminum strike plate with sling loop is available as an optional extra. This M4 collapsible stock comes with a replacement receiver extension. If mounting on a rifle with an A1 or A2 fixed stock, you must replace this with an M4 carbine buffer and spring (not supplied) – it is unlikely that non SF soldiers will be allowed to do this to their personal weapons, so this unit is probably not a good idea for a personal purchase for an issue M16.  The Magpul UBR is available in Black, Dark Earth, OD Green and Foliage Green. TPE187 has done a wonderful review of the Magpul UBR stock over at thehighroad.org.
