SOCOM 16 Kit Review

Smith Enterprise SOCOM 16 kit

Smith Enterprise SOCOM 16 kit

The Smith Enterprise SOCOM 16 kit fits the Springfield SOCOM 16 rifle enabling the operator to configure the rifle to their intended use.  The threaded gas block enables the switch between a Vortex flash hide and Compensator. The SOCOM 16 M1A Vortex flash hider is equipped with four flutes specially angled to reduce the muzzle flash and protect night vision by dissipating the gas and retaining unburned powder to prolong the burn. The M1A SOCOM Compensator reduces muzzle flip and felt recoil for faster follow-up shots.  An internal blash chamber equipped with side-facing ports distributes the hot gases to stabilize the muzzle in auto fire.  The flash suppressor and compensator are machined from 6620 steel bar stock then heat treated to ensure a combination of a tough inner core with a hard outer surface.  The SOCOM M-14 gas block is 1144 stressproof steel – the best choice for recoil resistance.  The gas block height is the same as the original Springfield M14 USGI unit and therefore enables the use of a USGI front sight or Smith Enterprise Match of Close Combat Tritium front sight units. Installation makes no permanent modifications to the SOCOM M14 rifle.

The unit has a black matter parkerized finish and is 15/16″ (3.3 cm) long, 13/16″ (2.1 cm) wide, 1-13/16″ (4.6cm) high and weighs 5.6 oz (158 g). The threads are 9/16″ 24 tpi OD. Both the Vortex flash hider and the Compensator are 3 3/4″ (9.5 cm) long x .9″ (23 mm) diameter and weight. They also weigh 5.6 oz (158 g) and have 9/16″ 24 tpi ID threads. It is recommended that a gas block wrench is used for installation on the M14 SOCOM 16.
