Attaching optics to an AK can be problematic. One way forward is to use a mount that replaces the rearsight. One such mount is the Samson AK-RSR1 Rearsight Rail. Precision machined from steel, the AK-RSR1 is finished in a hard wearing matte black coating to protect it from scuffs and scratches. It is easy to install, requiring no gunsmithing or permanent modifications – just be sure to put your rearsight (and particularly its spring) somewhere where they will be safe.
As you would expect, the rail is a standard MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny type that can also take attachments intended for Weaver rails. It incorporates a V-notch back up rearsight, but this is non-adjustable and not very practical. You also need to be aware that this mount puts your sight high up which can be a problem, particularly on early pattern AKs that have their comb set very low. The good news is this mount is very strong and fits as solid as a rock. Your sight should hold zero in contrast to top-cover rails.
